General
Ingapirca ( 3230 mts) is the most important and well-preserved Inca complex in Ecuador. Inside this fortress one can admire the elliptical platform, know as “The temple of the Sun”. Back to the time and imagine the Inca’s customs when adoring the Sun and the Moon. Visit the museum and appreciate the jewelry and ceramics of these cultures.
As you explore the ruins, originally a temple of worship to the sun, you will marvel at stone walls constructed of massive blocks so perfectly carved that a sheet of paper cannot be slipped between them. Your informative guide will transport you back in time, explaining how the Incas completely transformed the local culture in only 60 years without a written language. Stand among the ancient walls and experience ingenious technology that allows mere whispers to be heard over great distances.
Your day starts with an early morning departure from Cuenca in a modern, comfortable van. Along the Pan American highway relax and enjoy remarkable panoramic splendor as the surrounding mountains rise from impossibly green valleys. Depending on the day you may visit picturesque Canari Indian markets, local artisans, beautiful churches along the way or two other important cañari-inca archaeological ruins: Coyoctor and Cojitambo. After your extensive visit to Ingapirca enjoy a leisurely lunch with your fellow travelers before returning to Cuenca.
