The Amazon Rainforest
THE AMAZONIA: By simply heading east, one can get to this beautiful and unspoiled region of Ecuador. The Ecuadorian Amazon remains largely unexplored in many places. It is sparsely populated with indigenous settlements along the tributaries of the great river. It is very easily accessible and has a well-developed tourist infrastructure. The Amazon Rain forest presents the largest area of biodiversity in the world. Scientists consider it one of the twenty-five” hot-spots” on the planet that must be preserved for the earths’ survival.
These tropical lowlands in the east of Ecuador represent 45% of the country’s territory. Known as the greatest ecosystem on earth. The dense primary forest, is home to a wide range of animal species (snakes, monkeys, caimans, jaguars, etc.) and plants ( bromelias, orchids, huge trees); the flora and fauna a enclose a diversity of hundreds of species of birds (more than 700), amphibians, reptiles, butterflies, toucans and an incredible number of plants.
