Drive to ,El Cajas National Park ( the major lacustrine complex in Ecuador) which lies about 30 Km west of Cuenca, its is famous for its many beautiful lakes shining like jewels against the harsh countryside. The flora of this park distinguish for the small forest of polylepis trees, well knowt for its special bark which is paper-like and comes away from the tree easily when touching it.
El Cajas National park is the home of a wide variety of birds. And more than 17 species of amphibians
We will enjoy a moderate 3-hour hike around a glacier lake. This hike will take you through tundra vegetation and a Polylepis forest which almost feels like a setting from Lord of the Rings.
The tour will conclude with lunch at a delicious local restaurant to give you the opportunity to taste locally sourced trout, as well as other delicacies, before taking the van to a enjoy a panoramic view of Cajas National Park and heading back to Cuenca.
